Finding your own solution
Summary

5. Finding your own solution.

Here is a few solutions for your common problems that you may solve before contacting an IRC Operator.

1. Kline/Akill:
Kline or Akills are given to individuals which behaved in a way that opposes to our Acceptable Use Policy which you may find at Worldusers AUP . Instead of finding a way to evade that kill set on you, you should try to solve your problem.(ie, if that’s an ident issue, you may try to install ident daemon and enabling port# 113 on your connection, or if that’s a virus/trojan issue, you may have a system scan using Swat It or find an online scanner at http://housecall.antivirus.com). Once you solve your problem, you should contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it about your question, and staff members would take the appropriate action.

2. Frozen nickname/channel or a closed channel:
Your first step should be cheching the founder’s memos if the case is a channel. You should be send a short message by the operator whom froze/close your channel. Understand it, then for further assistance, contact that operator.

If your nickname got frozen, as explained in section 4, try to find an IRC Operator who would help you to find the person that froze your nickname. Then approach that operator having nice manners.

3. Getting nuked/attacked:
Please, before approaching an IRCOp, download a firewall. If configured well enough, that would protect you from any kind of attacks/packets towards your system. Those issues require a direct contact between clients and does not involve our network, so please don’t come to us and demand having whom-you-suspect’s nickname frozen or throwing him off from the network.

If the attacks harm your system or annoy you, you should filter their IP using your firewall, and then send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Forexample, if the abuser is using the IP address AC8C41B0.ipt.aol.com, you should send an email containing the abuse complain to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it If the user is using an IP address like 202.157.182.6, you should /dns 202.157.182.6 and then find their host according to the dns reply, then use the This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to contact his/her ISP. Such websites like www.samspade.com or www.information.com would also help you with that.

4. Ban evaders:
Set a wider ban on the user and see if that helps. If you set a ban according to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it as *!*@AC8C41B0.ipt.aol.com and the user keeps reconnecting to evade the ban set on him, and he’s using the same ident everytime he reconnects, ban *!*fish@* instead.

You may also setting a host ban if necessary. After trying these and you can’t solve your problem, see section 4 to contact an IRC Operator.

5. Harassment:
Use /ignore nickname. If the user keeps changing nicks and messaging you, use /ignore *!*@IPhere or /ignore *!*ident@* or such effective ignore types.
