IRC Operator Assitance
Do you need to be assisted by an IRC Operator?
Where can you find them?
Communication
Finding your own solution
Summary

4. Communication.

I found an IRC Operator (by any of the instructions given in the previous section), now what?
The first point you should know is that IRC Operators are volunteers and they don’t even have to help you. They’re helping you, only because they’re free and they want to. That’s why you should return their generosity by being polite. Having an attitude or abuse towards them will only make your help request fail.
Once you’ve found an IRC Operator, you should first do a /whois nickname nickname(ie, /whois oz oz) to see if they’re available or away, by checking their idle time. After making sure they’re available, you may proceed. Swearing, or using an offensive language while talking to them is not what anyone would welcome, so be kind. Once you were turned turn, don’t be rude, they do not reject you because they really want to. If what you’re asking for *cannot* be done, or something that the IRCOp might not be able to access, be understanding. Everyone has rules to follow.

A good communication example

Wisefish is our user, who needs help with his frozen nicknames, he sees that loozer is available and decides to message him.

<"wisefish> hello
<"loozer> hi
<"wisefish> if you’re available for help, could I ask you something?
<"loozer> why not? :)
<"wisefish> thanks I’d like to ask about my frozen channel #wisefish, why would it be frozen?
<"loozer> The CSOp who froze your channel would have contacted the founder of that channel, fish. Did you check your memos?
<"wisefish> hold pls =)
<"loozer> sure
<"fish> ooh, you’re right, one of the sops kept mass kicking the channel..
<"loozer> It’s most recommended that you contact the CSOp who froze your channel to get further assistance about that, you’d be guided on what you should do. Also, next time try to get only the people you trust to your channel access list, otherwise you’d go through the same thing.
<"fish> I will, thanks for your guidance and time =)
<"loozer> Most welcome, have a nice day :)
<"fish> bye

A failing communication example.

Maloni is our user whos’ channel got frozen aswell. He saw loozer’s nick in a channel, without checking if he’s available or not, he messages him.

<'Maloni> Y my channel got frozen!??
<'Maloni> Pls tell me!!!now..!
<'Maloni> im talking to u, answer me! Why did u frozen my channel!!
<'Maloni> TALK!!!

..he gets no response and disconnects. The next day, loozer is available and gets messaged again:

<'Maloni> yezterday I ask u help, u ignore me! And u frozen my channel i’ll get u out and talk to admin cop.
<"loozer> Excuse me? What did you need help with?
<'Maloni> TELL ME Y U FROEN MY CHAN #Hax0RR ???TELL!!!!!!!
<'Maloni> FROZEN*
<"loozer> Please don’t use caps, I think I’ve sent you a memo regarding your channel. Did you get it?
<'Maloni> Yes FocKEr I mKicked channel, SO WUT!?!?!?!
<"loozer> Using mass kick excessively on a channel is against IRCFutureNet’s acceptable use policy. Did you know that?
<'Maloni> SHUT UP! OPEN MMY CHAN. NOW! I’ll CounT to 60 and theN NuKe you!.
<'Maloni> TALK 2 ME, I’M NukiNg u Now!
<'Maloni> TALKKKKK!!!!

It didn’t go as he expected. Though loozer attempted to keep his polite attitude towards Maloni, he abused it, and ended up getting no response and his channel remained frozen.
